The Process (Picking a Lane…or Not)
At some point, someone told me I should “pick a lane” with my art, that I should stick to one style, one subject, one tidy little box people could easily understand. And while I appreciated the sentiment (and the concern for my branding), that’s just never been how my creativity works.
My mind doesn’t stay in one lane, it veers off-road,takes scenic detours, sometimes even builds new roads entirely. One day I might be experimenting with texture and natural materials, the next I’m exploring color fields or abstract forms. That unpredictability? It’s not a lack of focus, it’s how I stay energized, curious, and connected to the process.
Even though my work shifts in style and subject, I’m often told there’s something recognizable running through it all. A thread. A voice. A certain me-ness that shows up, no matter the medium or mood. And while I can’t fully explain what that is (nor do I want to), I trust it.
For me, art is less about sticking to a formula and more about staying in tune with myself, with the moment, and with whatever wild, wonderful direction the creative current decides to take me next.
